January State & Regional Association Updates

By Maria Carrasco, NASFAA Staff Reporter

In this monthly round-up in Today's News, we would like to highlight what’s going on in your state and regional associations.

This month, we have the opportunity to hear from our colleagues in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and the Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (EASFAA).

Charles Baywood, conference co-chair and EASFAA representative for CAPFAA (Connecticut), shares that the association held its 2025 CAPFAA Winter Conference on December 7-9 in Southbury, Connecticut. The winter conference had 114 financial aid professionals in attendance, which included 25 first-time attendees. Charles adds that the association saw representation from almost every member institution at this year’s winter conference, which represents a significant improvement in member engagement.

Robin Walker, president of PASFAA (Pennsylvania), shares that the association held Directors Training sessions. These sessions focused on key topics, including an open forum on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), return of Title IV funds (R2T4), federal updates, and compliance updates. Members can access the materials from the training sessions through the PASFAA website. Additionally, the association is hosting a Spring Training on March 12 and 17.

The 2026 PASFAA Conference is also scheduled for October 26-28 at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center in State College, Pennsylvania. The annual conference will feature sessions on financial aid policy, leadership development, and networking opportunities, Robin writes.

Ken Ferreira, president of EASFAA, shares that the EASFAA Council had its December 2025 Regional Council meeting on December 4, followed up by a budget meeting on December 15.

Additionally, Ken joined colleagues at the CAPFAA Conference in December. EASFAA President-Elect Nick Prewett also traveled to the Puerto Rican Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (PRASFAA) and presented at the association’s conference. Members of the EASFAA Council also produced a holiday video message that can be found online, Ken writes.

Check back next month to see what your colleagues are doing across the country, and check out your colleagues’ updates from previous months!
