Case Study: Massachusetts Bay Community College

February 2026

Goals

Providing custom training for the entire financial aid services team.

Situation

Stephanie Jean-Pierre, Director of Financial Aid Services at Massachusetts Bay Community College, contacted Blue Icon Advisors for assistance with customized training for the financial aid team. FAFSA Simplification has introduced many changes. While training for team is ongoing, due to the demands of the office and magnitude of changes, assistance is needed. Therefore, Jean-Pierre has requested customized overview training on common Title IV Federal Student Aid topics.

Solution

Using NASFAA Training materials, Blue Icon provided overview training on seven common financial aid topics:

  • Application Process
  • Direct Loans
  • Federal Pell Grant Program
  • Need Analysis
  • Professional Judgment
  • Return of Title IV Funds
  • Verification

Each training topic included a custom case study developed in collaboration with the Financial Aid Services team that provided an opportunity to apply the training to Mass Bay’s students and programs.

Outcome

“Having the team in one place at the same time, focused on training was so valuable,” Jean-Pierre said. “The training was well-paced and the materials were clear. The case studies were important to tie into what we handle regularly.” Mass Bay’s entire team was able to attend the training and still have access to recordings for up to a year. “Our consultant made the experience even more fantastic! She kept everyone engaged, sharing her knowledge to benefit everyone,” Jean-Pierre said.

“This training laid the groundwork to create a foundational commitment to cross-training for the team. It was well worth it.”
