Affirming Low-Income Hidden Identities in Higher Education

Session Type:

Concurrent Session
This interactive session explores the unique challenges low-income individuals face in higher education. Participants will learn how poverty shapes perspectives, decision-making, and daily experiences for students, staff, faculty, and community members. Through real-life examples, an interactive activity, and a review of a year-long study of low-income students at one school, the session will highlight the barriers (financial, cultural, psychological, and emotional) faced by those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and provide practical strategies to foster a more inclusive and supportive campus environment.
